EF Challenges for individuals 18 years and under may present with the following traits:

  • Frequently interrupt conversations

  • Impulsive

  • Situations and environments may cause an emotional reaction and response

  • Quickly forget a 1 or 2 step direction

  • Difficulty starting a simple task or project without a reminder or assistance

  • Has trouble adjusting to change without major distress

  • Forgetful and disorganized

  • Short attention span and a heightened awareness of all environmental distractions

EF Challenges for individuals 18 years and older may present with the following traits:

  • Procrastination

  • Jumping from one activity to another without finishing a task or assignment

  • Have trouble keeping workspaces or homes organized

  • Forget to do things as promised

  • Loose cool when things don’t go as planned/Say things without thinking

  • Struggle to come up with Plan B

  • Chronically Late

Executive Functioning Therapy Targets:

  • Planning and Organizing

    • Developing skills to set realistic goals and become efficient in the prioritization of  tasks

  • Time Management

    • Determining how long a task will take, allocating time more efficiently and meet deadlines

  • Attention and Focus

    • Improvements in sustained, selective and divided attention skills

  • Working Memory

    • Strengthen the skills set to hold on to and use new information for short periods of time

  • Impulse Control

    • Control impulses and delay gratification

  • Self- Monitoring

    • Increase awareness of behavior and self-cue to make adjustments as needed

  • Initiating Tasks

    • Overcome mental barriers to beginning a task by creating efficient structures or routines that work for the individual

  • Cognitive Flexibility

    • Shift thinking, adapt to changes and generate problem-solving approaches

  • Goal Directed Behavior

    • Set realistic goals, create a plan and achieve the objective
